Electric bikes have become a trend for many and a need for some in the past few years. If you already have an e-bike or are planning to buy one, you might be willing to use it in the long run and sustain it to avoid major issues.

Today, several people struggle to afford public or private transport which apparently, has become one of the basic needs of people’s lives. Due to the awful conditions of public transports, many people avoid using them for their daily commute to schools, colleges, universities, or workplaces. Therefore, they need an affordable yet convenient way to commute.

This problem has been catered to by various manufacturers who have introduced electric bikes that are affordable and useful in multiple ways.

Electric bikes are widely known for being low-maintenance and eco-friendly vehicles. In fact, e-bikes gained popularity, emerging as a cult in this era because they let you reduce your carbon footprint.  However, if you own an electric bike or you want to, you must keep certain things in mind. Firstly, you need to remember that it is a means of travel and so, like any other vehicle, it requires regular maintenance, too. If you are careful about the timely maintenance you get to relish the joys of your e-bike for a long time. Secondly, you might not be able to figure out the actual problem behind your electric bike not working correctly. But, fret not; we are here to help you spot the telltale signs your electric bike needs repairs.

Signs Your Electric Bike Needs A Repair

Everything has its pros and cons. Even though electric bikes are low-maintenance, they still needs to be repaired frequently to sustain their batteries and regular function. Furthermore, if you conduct random repairs yourself or are planning to do so, at least schedule an annual or biannual visit to a good service shop. It will help if you explore a good service shop while buying an e-bike so that you can get it checked while buying and even after purchasing it. It will also become easier for you because not every service shop can repair electric bikes.

You don’t need to check your electric bike daily, but you can look for signs that will help you figure out that your electric bike needs maintenance or an urgent repair. Some of these signs can be:

1. Constant Battery Issues

Multiple issues can crop up with your battery, and you might not be able to analyze the actual fault. The best thing you can do is take your electric bike to a service shop, but read the following to get an idea of what might be wrong:

· Your Battery Lacks Charging

In this case, first, you need to check that your battery is low or not, then you need to recharge it. Also, to avoid running into problems frequently, you must get durable batteries from well-known brands. While you might be able to purchase low quality batteries for cheaper, you might be at a higher risk of running into power related problems. Persistent negligence can lead to bills, as a damaged battery would need a replacement. Another concern is overcharging your batteries. If you overcharge your batteries, they will be damaged prematurely, whether they are expensive or regular batteries.

· The Charger Might Be The Problem

Check the charger when putting your e-bike on charge. You might think it’s your battery, but it may be the charger causing the issues. Any malfunction in the charger might damage your battery too. That can be a significant loss if you bought high-end batteries for your electric bike and then acted carelessly. Frequently, people don’t pay much heed to chargers and end up ruining their batteries.

· The Battery Might Be Running Low

It happens often; people presume their electric bike is damaged and needs immediate repairs when in reality it is just running low on battery. You need to be keen about charging your batteries beforehand if you need to ride somewhere far away.

Ensure all safety measures before setting off on a trip and regretting later; it is only beneficial for you. Another way to be sure about your battery timing is to ride your e-bike on the lowest mode possible; this will drain your battery gradually while sustaining its health.

But many a time, the issue is not charging; it is again the battery.

Your battery might be old, or the quality of the battery is poor, which is why it is always low. You need to replace the old battery with new and durable ones right away. So, getting help from a professional service provider could save you from breaking a sweat.

2. You Might Be Facing Delays In Your Trips Due To Tire Issues

When buying an electric bike, you must check all the features. Make sure you closely inspect the electric bike’s quality of tires and batteries. Choose an e-bike that has excellent quality and durable tires so that you don’t need to spend on them so soon. However, high-quality tires can damage and creates problems too. You might not know what the problem is, but you can find some of them below:

· It Might Just Be A Tire Puncture

If it is only a puncture, you can fix that on your own. And, even if you can’t do it on your own, go to the nearest service shop and have it inflated.

You don’t have to replace the tires just because of a puncture. It all depends on the frequency of punctures and the extent of damage they cause.

· You May Need To Replace Your Tires

If your tires are old or they have punctured quite a few times, it’s time to replace them. You need to get new tires and get them from reputable brands for sustainable tires. If you get poor-quality tires, you will need to spend frequently on them, which is the last thing you want. After all, you bought an e-bike because of its affordability factor. So, to avoid added expenses in the future, spend your money on reliable brands and quality tires; consider it an investment.

3. Reduced Efficiency

It is one of the most common problems people face with electric bikes and often don’t realize its cause. Remember to clean your e-bike regularly before riding on it so that you can avoid dust and debris from building up and affecting its efficiency.

· The Bike’s Chain Might Seize Or Create Noise

Clean the chain of your electric bike daily to avoid any dirt sticking on it because it can cause rust on the chain if not properly and frequently cleaned. It will help if you lubricate the chain regularly. It is a major issue faced by various people due to their laziness and relentless behavior.

A couple more things you can check if you don’t know what the problem is include:

  • The throttle
  • The motor
  • Pedals of the bike

However, you cannot resolve all the issues at home; therefore, finding a good service shop that you can visit when your electric bike has problems anytime is a must. See other must do tips here.
