People are debating whether they should invest in an electric bike. The confusion makes sense as electric bikes have recently taken over the transportation market with an astounding number of benefits such as reduced pollution and more cost savings.

If you have not bought an electric bike, we recommend buying one due to the plethora of benefits. However, this blog is not about buying an electric bike, and we will be discussing the products that can add value to an electric bike. Therefore, if you already have or you know someone who does, this could be a great read, especially if you are looking to buy a gift for a friend who owns an electric bike.

Before we start getting into the details, let’s understand what is a Complementary product? A Complementary product is any product that adds value to another product. For example, milk is a Complementary product to cereal as adding milk to cereal gives the cereal a better taste. Therefore, we will be looking at products that add value to electric bikes. Even the best-rated electric bikes can use some of these products for added value so let’s take a look:

1. A Helmet

A helmet is the most important product that you will need for safety. Many people consider a helmet as a hindrance to riding freely. However, to save your life, wearing a helmet while you ride is extremely important.

Helmets become essential if you ride your bike alongside traffic. Many drivers text while driving. To be safe from such drivers, wearing a helmet is a must.

The type of helmet you get depends on the style you prefer, your budget, and the level of safety you require. We recommend getting a helmet that is not too expensive but can offer sufficient protection to your head from serious injuries.

Moreover, if you want to save money but want a helmet that looks cool, you can buy a basic skateboarding helmet as they are light on the pockets. For the look, you can customize it the way you want to by painting over it.

If you think you do not need a helmet because you ride your electric bike in areas that do not have traffic or people, you need to think again. Even if you are riding your electric bike on a hiking trail that does not have people around, a bump into a rock can cause you to fall and even a small injury to the head can cause huge problems. Therefore, no matter how you ride your electric bike, helmets are the most important product to go with an electric bike.

2. An Extra Battery

You never know when you might run out of power and so, having an extra battery on hand can prove to be extremely beneficial.

If you like to travel longer distances, then keeping an extra battery is an absolute must. Some of the best-rated electric bikes come equipped with a second battery and so, you do not need to buy a third battery. However, if your electric bike only has a single battery, you should invest in a backup option.

Once you have an extra battery, you do not need to worry about the range you can travel or constantly worry if your battery is about to die. Your life will become much easier with this Complementary product.

Another huge advantage of owning a backup battery is if the original one stops working or is not as efficient as before, you do not need to wait before replacing it since you already have the replacement with you!

3. Repair Tools

You never know when and where your electric bike can break down and so, having the right tools with you becomes important.

Moreover, if you want to avoid taking your electric bike to repair shops that charge exorbitantly, it is better to keep the tools to fix the e-bike yourself. You might need to watch a couple of tutorial videos before you become a repairman.

You can easily find tool kits for electric bikes on Amazon but the problem with toolkits is that they are not portable. However, that does not mean that you should not have a complete toolkit. In addition to the toolkit, another important tool to keep is a multipurpose tool. A multitool is portable and can get you out of sticky situations. They are equipped with wrenches, chain tools, screwdrivers, and more, everything you need to fix your electric bike on the go.

4. Tube Repair Kit

Tube tires are prone to going flat someday and to be prepared for that day, you need a tube repair kit to avoid getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.

If you find yourself far from home or a tube repair facility, and your tire has gone flat, you will blame yourself for not investing in a tube repair kit. Most kits come with rubber glue or cement, rubber patches, and a metal tool.

Most tube repair kits do not come with an air pump so even if you manage to fix a damaged tire, reinflating it would be impossible. Therefore, it is important to keep an air pump if your tube repair kit does not have one.

5. A Backpack

You might be wondering where you are supposed to keep an air pump or a multipurpose tool. A backpack that has ample storage space is a must for people who like to travel on their electric bike, regularly and for long distances.

You will need to store many things on the go and so, investing in a backpack, if you do not have one, will be a smart thing to do. From food to drinks to other essentials, you can never carry too less and so, make sure you get a backpack that can easily fit all your essentials and is comfortable to wear.

Moreover, since you will be traveling in different weather, you should get a backpack that is waterproof so that if it rains, your stuff will stay protected.

6. Rearview Mirrors

Rearview mirrors are extremely important for electric bikes that are used in traffic. You need to know what’s behind you before making turns. Most of the best-rated electric bikes come equipped with some sort of a rearview mirror, if your electric bike does not have one, you should certainly invest in one.

You will need rearview mirrors for both sides and always remember that just because you have a rearview mirror does not mean that you do not need to look over your shoulder. Just like driving a car, there could be blind spots that can be avoided by double-checking over your shoulder.

7. A lock

Locks are extremely important for all kinds of bikes, not just electric bikes. Even if you have a bicycle, you will know the importance of having a lock.

Locks prevent theft and people borrowing your electric bike without asking. It is more important for an electric bike owner to have a lock than a regular bicycle owner due to the investment required for electric bikes.

Some people try to find locks that are not too expensive but risk their items being stolen because the cheaper locks are easier to break. Therefore, we recommend investing in a good lock such as a U-lock or a chain lock.

8. A basket

If you have an electric cargo bike, a basket will not be useful since you already have ample storage space.

However, for all other electric bikes, it is a good option to invest in a basket. If you have a basket, you will not even need to carry your backpack or you can just throw it in the basket for a more comfortable ride.

9. Lights

Most of the best-rated electric bikes come equipped with lights. If your electric bike does not have lights, you must get some.

It is very difficult to spot an electric bike without lights at night. Without lights, your chances of getting into an accident are heightened significantly.

Even if you do not ride at night, foggy days can be as harsh as nights. Therefore, it is better to invest in lights no matter what. An added safety precaution would be to invest in some reflectors as well.

Summing it up

Investing in the products above will be worth the investment as it will increase your safety and comfort, allowing you to ride more freely without any worries.

There are many more products that will add value to your electric bike, such as first aid kits, bike racks, water bottles, water bottle holders, fatter tires, comfier seats, GPS tracking, mudguards, and so much more. We discussed the most important ones to keep necessities separate from the luxuries; however, if you have the resources to buy the luxuries too, we recommend doing so to make the most of your electric bike.

We hope you found this blog helpful. We wish you happier and safer riding!
